The Do-Over Music Series, organized by Lisa Mezzacappa and Jordan Glenn, is a monthly series of sound performances + expanded visual projections presented every first Thursday (unless otherwise noted) at Shapeshifters Cinema. It is part semi-formal performance, part live experimentation—and no-one really knows what to expect, not even the artists.
Every Do-Over consists of two sets. The first set features creative - improvised - composed - electronic - acoustic music performed by a rotating cast of local luminaries and special guest artists. The second set opens up to a live improvised collaboration between the sound artists and expanded visuals performed by the Shapeshifters Cinema Performance Group and sometimes other guest artists. These are made using found (educational, industrial, home) 16mm film, handmade 16mm film loops, 35mm slides, overhead projectors, reflective and refractive interference materials and good old fashioned legerdemain. The results are best experienced in the moment and always different, every performance.
